Gaining Insight. Experiencing God. Growing in Understanding.

Training in the U.S.

From August 26th to September 1st training took place in Louisville, Kentucky. We attended many workshops, worship services, and discussion groups. The first topic was: “mission as partnership” (as opposed to hierarchical relationship) between the ministry team from the U.S. and the people in the receiving countries. Through partnership, the gifts and strengths of all parties are honored and relationships are mutually life-giving.

We also discussed: understandings of gender roles in different cultures, culture-shock, racism and sexism in mission, the global economy, and self-care. The worship services and Bible-studies calmed our hearts and prepared our minds for the journey ahead. In the closing worship service, Shelvis served Communion for the group (which was a new experience for him since he was just ordained this past July). The bread and wine, accompanied by the words he spoke, nourished the group as we all prepared to leave the next morning.
